at the Community Arts Project (CAP) from 1982 to 87 mainly under Cecil
Skotnes.
Tyrone started his career with oil painting and sculpting in 1980.His colorful African art paintings reflect the changing times in South Africa. From scenes of despair and destruction, witnessed and experienced during the liberation struggle, to images of hope, peace and reconciliation.
He began exhibiting in 1982 and has participated in countless group shows, both in South Africa and abroad.

Tyrone Appollis is an artist fluent in a multitude of media, oils, acrylics, drawing, printmaking, sculpture in wood and assemblages. Artist, musician, composer, poet and self-taught philosopher, Tyrone believes that art can be instrumental in bringing about reconciliation on all levels. He is passionate about freedom, for the individual, the community and the artist, but he believes that it must be tempered with discipline. He wishes to be remembered one day as an artist who identifies with the human condition, which he so richly portrays in his work."

Tyrone Appollis "I consider political and social reconciliation to be an integral part of art. A cross-cultural dialogue, personal therapy and as communication to God. All my compositions are in one way or another, autobiographical. I portray an array of continuous movement, animating featureless townships with colorful shacks and folk on the streets dancing, vending, making music and occasionally fighting". |
