Rudolf Rieger
Rudolf Rieger is a creative Film Producer, Writer and Artist, the owner of Cultural, Media and IT related business.

Cultural Projects, Visual and Performing Arts are his interests. Rudolf is dedicated to Photography, Film Production, Writing, Branding, Marketing and Cultural Tourism.

Rudolf was born in Krasnystaw, Poland and educated in Germany and Switzerland. After a three and a half year study in telecommunication in Germany and army training he was employed as an Assistant in Mathematics with the Nuclear Research Institute in Karlsruhe, Germany, where he programmed, besides the IBM 7070, the Zuse 22 computer; Mr Zuse being the inventor of the first ever build digital computer.

Rudolf than joined IBM experiencing intense training in all kind of Information Technology (IT) related programming, simulation studies, hardware architecture and their utilization, application methods and methodologies, which training was ongoing over the following 10+ years. There was no other provision made for studying IT in Europe but accumulating knowledge by lectures and training provided by the then computer manufacturers.

Living and working for ten years in Switzerland Rudolf developed application computer software and thereafter was employed by Swissair and Credit Suisse as a Business Analyst and as such leading various projects to its final implementation.

Parallel to his work he became a scholar in visual art studies at the Freie Kunstschule Zürich in Zurich and attended ongoing sessions at the Atelier Peter Grenacher until his departure for Johannesburg.

The computerization of Credit Suisse in Ticino, the Italian speaking Kanton of Switzerland, was his last project before arriving in Johannesburg in early 1976 where he took up a post at NCR as Head of System Development & Programming, responsible for both domestic and international projects, reporting directly to NCR HQ in Ohio.

In January 1979 he moved to Hout Bay. During the same year the Association of Arts presented his artwork at three occasions. The Sembach Art Gallery while still trading in Hout Bay, was a great supporter of his art. His work, amongst other places, could be seen, e.g. at the Kruger National Park and the Palace of the Lost City.

In 1980 Rudolf founded a software development company later registered under Diamond Computer Software Systems. He, intermittently, spent a further 15 years living abroad in Namibia, Europe, Canada, USA and the Far East.

Creating and programming security and various back-office business applications he consulted on numerous corporate IT projects, including a software security implementation, computer aided system engineering, for the Namibian Directorate of National Examinations and Assessment, controlling the access of all examination papers.

Since 2004, after establishing On Set Images and his years of extensive travel, Rudolf is focussed on skills categories: Media, Photography, the Film Industry, Branding and Web Based Design & Marketing.

As Mentor and service provider, under the umbrella of On Set Images, to the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), the Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) providing services to start-ups and established businesses, to Tourism and the Film Industry.

In Alternative Tourism, today trading under AFRICANI, which he established in 2006, his focus is on the arts, culture and heritage.

As a producer of documentaries, reflecting Southern Africa's indigenous culture he signs responsible under the umbrella of On Set Images and On Set Film Productions. However, his responsibility for project feasibility studies, research and development including its basic fundraising forms part of IPSOSA the Indigenous Peoples Society of South Africa a non-profit company founded in 2007 where he fills the position on the board of directors and as Chief Executive Officer.

His series, a 7-episode documentary, The Khoekhoe Saga, co-funded by the National Lotteries Commission, directed by Johann Abrahams, was broadcasted by the SABC2 during 2023. A ½ month workshop on filmmaking, funded by the Department of Arts & Culture, servicing the less privileged communities were completed by him during January 2024.

Membership and Engagement

Rudolf, further is member of the Documentary Filmmakers Association, Writers’ Guild of South Africa and General Secretary of the Performing Arts Network of South Africa (2 years). He served Hout Bay, his home town, as Museum Trustee for 5 years, as a Rotarian for 15 years, for several years on the Advisory Board of HBBOF (Hout Bay Business Opportunity Forum) a community based NGO and the National Sea Rescue as crew member during the eighties. Rudolf has been a Jury Member for the South African Film and Television Awards, SAFTAs 2018, 2019 and 2021.

As a passed active member of the Gorachouqua Council of the Khoe and Bushman Nation and on the council of the Western Cape Integrated Indigenous and Traditional Leaders he signed responsible for Media Relations and Logistics.
